National Tea Party Convention Announces First Tea Party Presidential "Straw Poll"

(Free-Press-Release.com) May 14, 2010 -- NASHVILLE, Tennessee (May 14, 2010) The National Tea Party Convention, today, announced it will hold a Tea Party Presidential "Straw Poll" to gauge the interest and establish a "Tea Party Presidential Candidate" for the 2012 election. This first ever Tea Party straw poll, will allow the delegates and Pay-Per-View participants to vote on their preferred presidential candidate in anticipation of the field of candidates for the conservative mantel in the election.

The straw poll ballot will be published on June 15, 2010, thirty days before the start of the convention, and will contain the top twelve names of candidates for purposes of voting. A combination of likely presidential candidates and key conservatives selected through proposals from Tea Party Nation, the National Tea Party Federation, their leadership and members, will be placed on the ballot for the event. The actual vote will be completed at the convention on the morning of July 17, 2010 with announcement of the winner that same morning.

Judson Philips, Founder and President of Tea Party Nation said, “When we decided to do this convention, I felt it was important to provide a dramatic and practical way in which the delegates could make their voices heard. The Tea Party Presidential 'Straw Poll' was the idea that could energize the movement and the convention. I am very excited that our efforts will be the first in the movement to formally engage in this straw poll and in the subsequent interest of the possible candidates and media."

Phillips further commented, "In recent polling, fifty-two percent of mainstream voters said that they believe that the average member of the Tea Party movement has a better understanding of the issues facing America today than the average member of Congress. The straw poll will begin to establish those candidates who would be received favorably by the Tea Party movement and its core values. This will be a watershed moment in politics this summer."

The Convention will feature well-known speakers, training sessions on practical skills, such as fundraising, organizing, countering the left’s racism charges and finding conservative voters. The Convention will also have the first “Tea Party Nation Conservative Film Festival,” which will showcase and honor conservative filmmakers and conservative films. Saturday evening we will host a Traditional American Concert and Symposium.

The Tea Party Unity Convention will be held July 15-17 at The Palazzo Las Vegas Resort and Convention Center in Las Vegas Nevada. The purpose of the convention is to be a unifying event for the Tea Party movement in the run up to the fall congressional elections.
