Have you suffered food poisoning symptoms from recalled eggs?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 31, 2010 -- Due to the current massive salmonella outbreak private citizens are voicing their concern over the possibility of a food borne illness affecting their family members. Many consumers are worried for their young children and their elderly family members, two groups of individuals hit hard by the effects of Salmonella poisoning.

In an urgent multi-departmental collaboration, the FDA and CDC joined forces to uncover the source of the Salmonella contamination. By following the supply chain of several restaurants reporting an increasing number of Salmonella sicknesses among their customers, the government agencies were able to identify the egg producers responsible for the outbreak.

Two main sources of the Salmonella contamination included Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa and Hillandale Farms of New Hampton, Iowa. On August 13, Wright County Egg voluntarily conducted a nationwide recall of shell eggs on 3 of its 5 farms. Further epidemiologic and traceback information led to Wright County Egg expanding its recall on August 18 to cover all 5 farms and 380 million eggs (according to company figures). Hillandale Farms followed with their recall of 130 million eggs on August 20. Many of the infected eggs could still very well be in grocery stores, restaurants, and your home.

The FDA provided list of affected brands include: Albertsons, Alta Dena Dairy, Bayview, Becky, Boomsma's, Cal Egg, Challenge Dairy, Country Eggs, Driftwood Dairy, Dutch Farms, Farm Fresh, Glenview, Hidden Villa Ranch, Hillandale Farms, James Farms, Kemps, Lucerne, Lund, Mi Pueblo, Mountain Dairy, Nulaid, Pacific Coast, Ralph's, Shoreland, Sunny Farms, Sunny Meadow, Sunshine, Sun Valley, Trafficanda, West Creek, and Wholesome Farms.

You have a right to compensation if you have eaten the eggs and experienced food poisoning symptoms severe enough for a visit to your doctor. Persons infected with Salmonella Enteritidis usually experience the following food poisoning symptoms 12 to 72 hours after consumption: fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses.

No deaths have yet been reported.
