NBAF, presenters of the National Black Arts Festival, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the celebration of the arts of the African Diaspora on a national and international stage, proudly presents A Conversation with Esteemed Author and University Professor of English, Houston Baker, Jr., on Sunday, January 29th, at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, located at 101 Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.
In his award-winning book Betrayal: How Black Intellectuals Have Abandoned the Ideals of the Civil Rights Era, Baker says some of the black community's leading lights have abandoned the progressive social ideas that fueled the civil rights era. He will touch on his literature and why he believes that Martin Luther King, Jr.'s death 40 years ago marked the beginning of the end. Additionally, he will address the controversy around his latest book, define the term “hungry generation” and share how they do a disservice to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., W.E.B. Du Bois and others who have fought for black rights. Baker will also delve into his provocative investigation of the black intellectual and reveal some of the philosophies and points underlined in his literature, speeches and academic discussions.
Baker, who is known for his invigorating conversations and provocative discussions, will autograph copies of his book after the discussion. The conversation will also be streamed live at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/betrayal-by-dr-houston-a-baker.
This event is free and open to the public, however, registration is required. Presented by NBAF’s Education and Public Programs.
