January 2012, West London. Neha’s Cooking School has launched the new year with its cooking courses and spices. Based in West London, Neha’s cooking school is offering a range of courses for everyone, specialising in easy to prepare, delectable and nourishing Pan Asian food.
Neha Misra, the self-taught savvy, practical and economic home cook, is sharing her recipes, tips and hints in her new school. She uses British methods and ingredients blended with Asian flavours to create sublime and exciting dishes. Her classes are hands-on, practical and inspirational, designed to show a fresh approach to cooking. During the courses, students learn to prepare at least three dishes, covering a starter, main course and a desert, with one dish also adapted three ways. Students are provided with all the ingredients, utensils and course material.
Neha has been cooking from a very young age. Although not a trained chef, she has learnt to cook watching her mother, her Irish nanny and her aunt put freshly cooked healthy and tasty food on the table. They maximised budgets and cooked food that the whole family wanted to eat. Neha has soaked up that knowledge and brought her British and Indian cultures together in a glorious self-expressed mixture of all her culinary heritages: Burmese, Bengali and British.
As Neha commented, “My recipes are a must for anyone who wants to eat well but economically. When I started cooking for my family, I devised dishes that provided savvy solutions for any household. I looked at maximising the many benefits of Asian cooking, such as dishes that can easily be made in bulk, leaving me with enough to freeze, or meat dishes that tasted better if cooked ahead. My recipes are not traditional Indian dishes. They are a melting pot of Asian flavours with British ingredients and methods. I shop in supermarkets as much as I shop in ethnic shops. My aim is to find savvier ways of cooking which are delicious, nutritious and do not break the bank.”
And this is precisely what Neha shares through her cooking school and informative website www.nehascooking.com. Her dishes are low in cost and yet bursting with flavours. Neha’s cooking school and website are aimed at people who like to eat and like to cook. The recipes are designed for easy cooking for family and friends, and will develop basic cookery skills. Advanced techniques challenge the more adventurous cooks, while demonstrations and recipes are available to tempt the intermediate students. Neha caters for individuals, private groups and corporate bookings, and classes may be taken in West London or onsite. Courses are also available for special interest menus such as vegan friendly and wheat free.
The website is rich with free recipes, tips and hints, while courses, spices and gift vouchers are all available to buy online.
Neha also supplies hand picked and roasted spices, such as Garam Masala, Bengali five spices and a basic spice box with specially selected spices. Each spice box has seven individual sections that contain whole coriander, whole cumin, star anise, whole clove, whole cinnamon, whole black cardamoms and whole black pepper. The spices will last up to 6 months in the special airtight container.
