FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 12, 2012 --
Along with all the knowledge gained through research come more specializations in dentistry. Neuromuscular dentistry is a specialized dental field that treats diseases and disorders of the jaw, nerves, muscles, bone and soft tissues of the mouth. Like cosmetic dentists, neuromuscular dentists have completed advanced dental studies at centers like Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.
Many disorders treated by neuromuscular dentists have far-reaching effects, even though the cause, and proper treatment, is often limited to your mouth and jaw. One example is temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ). You also might have heard these specialists referred to by the term TMJ dentist because so many neuromuscular dentistry treatments address problems associated with TMJ.
Knowing these highly skilled dental specialists are available is tremendous news for people whose symptoms have failed to subside despite months, or even years of medical treatment. Any TMJ dentist will recognize unrelenting symptoms including the TMJ ‘migraine’ headache as potential indicators of TMJ. Other symptoms to be aware of include:
• Neck, shoulder or arm pain
• Jaw pain
• Facial muscle pain
• Eye pain
• Tooth aches or loose teeth
• Jaw popping or clicking
• Jaw locking
These symptoms can be elusive. From a medical standpoint, they can indicate any number of problems. But the big problem is that your medical doctor is probably not well-trained to recognize these as symptoms of a misaligned jaw or bite problem. In many cases, TMJ often goes untreated far too long or discovered by chance.
Even a general dentist might miss the symptoms and fail to recommend that you get an evaluation and diagnostic testing for TMJ. When symptoms are not directly related to your jaw, it is the neuromuscular and TMJ dentist that has received the specialized training to recognize these subtle and deceptive symptoms for what they really are.
Please visit Toronto TMJ dentist Dr. Adam Chapnick online at Molson Park Dental Office for more information or to schedule your TMJ evaluation.
