San Antonio, Texas, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) September 1, 2010 --The National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) announced that Mass of Renewal www.massofrenewal.com by William Gokelman and David Kauffman of San Antonio, Texas, was voted the winner of a new Catholic Mass setting competition sponsored by NPM.

Over the last 12 months, more than 160 entries were submitted by composers from around the world. A panel of five independent judges reviewed each mass and selected four finalists. The final four compositions were then sung by and voted on by all 2,000+ NPM members (choir directors and music ministers) who attended the national convention this summer in Detroit, MI.

“Our hope was to write a musical setting of the mass that wouldn’t get in the way of the prayer experience,” said Bill Gokelman, co-writer of this new setting and Chairman of the Music department at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX.

“It was so easy to sing. And so beautiful!” said Sally Mondella from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA. “This is the mass setting that will help our community pray.”

Gokelman and Kauffman’s Mass of Renewal may be sung with various combinations of instruments, including guitar, piano, organ, brass, and even full orchestra. It may be sung by a congregation alone or with the participation of an SATB choir. It's very adaptable for contemporary Youth Choirs and all musical resources will be available in Spanish.

Catholic artist G.E. Mullan has created a beautiful visual image of a "Kneeling Angel" for this mass. Look for the "Kneeling Angel" on all musical products and resources.
