Los Angeles, CA -- Movies are the subject. Screenwriting, the medium. You, the writer. And now you’re invited to be part of an interactive community that matters: for writers, about writers, by writers. The new web-based screenwriting resource The Script Lab (TSL) is proud to announce its official launch, providing entertainment news, movie reviews, feature articles, writer’s blogs, script tips, writer’s forums, screenplay consulting, and The Formula.
Information
The TSL homepage is the only one you’ll ever need: links to the hottest entertainment news, movie reviews from a writer’s point of view, and feature articles, including everything from independent filmmaking to mainstream new media. Or if you’re the audacious type, get a snapshot into the inner thoughts of one (or all) of our tendentious characters lurking in TSL’s blogs.
Education
TSL is thrilled to offer The Formula: a fully searchable screenwriting textbook. Developed through his years as a Media Arts Professor and script coach, Michael Schilf has created a knowledgeable and dependable resource for all screenwriters. Whether you’re just beginning, using it when you’re stuck, or taking a refresher on fundamentals, The Formula gets you started and keeps you on track.
What’s more, TSL provides daily Script Tips as well as the Ask the Pros Forum, where our very own Professor Schilf answers screenwriting questions around the clock. The Screenwriter’s Dictionary of Terms is another great resource to help in a quick pinch.
Analysis
TSL also provides comprehensive script consulting packages and additional services, offered by our team of professional writers and TSL approved script specialists. Looking for first draft analysis? Need development help for that adaptation? Always wanted a professional industry-working mentor? TSL is here to take your order.
Andy Stires, a graduate through one of TSL’s mentoring programs, said, “The Script Lab and The Formula provided great tools to get me thinking about how to develop believable characters with interesting personalities and real problems, then breaking down the three-act structure into eight definite sequences, highlighting all the major sign posts along the way.“
Stires went on to add, “I would never have been able to finish without following The Formula. It just made everything so much more manageable.”
About The Script Lab:
The Script Lab was co-founded by Michael Schilf and Derek Ruth in January of 2010. Schilf graduated with an MFA in Screenwriting from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts in 2000. Over the last decade, Schilf has written in the commercial world and taught Screenwriting and English collegiate courses as well as screenwriting workshops throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Ruth is a fellow screenwriter out of RIT, with an award-winning background in web design, development, and branding.
