New Contemporary Label to Present at Western Canada Fashion Week

contemporary womenswear designer, Genette Salgado. The designer is poised to present her Autumn/Winter 2011 evening dress collection titled, “Baby, Whatcha Gonna Do With Your Life?” at the upcoming Western Canada Fashion Week on Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 at 8PM. The show will be held at the Transalta Arts Barn in the heart of Whyte Ave, Edmonton's arts district. The show promises to be part rocker, part pin-up, part girl-next-door, and embody the liveliness of Salgado's personality, free-spirit, and personal style.

Genette Salgado graduated with a BA in Anthropology from the University of Alberta before moving to Vancouver, BC to attend the intensive fashion design program at Blanche Macdonald’s Centre for Applied Design. She began interning with Vancouver-based eco-designer, Nicole Bridger during her studies then gained additional hands-on experience with Vancouver design house, Obakki, and Project Runway Canada’s Genevieve Graham. In 2009, Salgado was selected to present her work at BC Fashion Week’s Youth in Fashion Showcase as well as participated in a charity fashion show in Edmonton, AB for the Balikbayan Project – an organization aimed at keeping children off the streets in the Philippines by providing artistic and athletic outlets. This was followed, in the summer of 2010, with the successful completion of design nternships with New York-based design labels, Cynthia Steffe and NOMIA. Fall 2011 will be the 3rd season for the GENETTE SALGADO brand.

GENETTE SALGADO is directed to women 25-40 years of age with an adventurous spirit, a zest for life, and a love for fashion. Genette Salgado designs for women like herself and her closest girlfriends and her label is an acknowledgment and admiration of such women – passionate and fearless, ready to take on the world with grace, style and a fly-by-the-seat of-your-pants attitude. Drawing inspiration from popular culture, history, and personal experiences. Salgado’s designs are apologetically edgy, with a touch of badass, and a whole lot of sophistication. The line is composed of effortless, easy to wear separates and detail-oriented cocktail dresses averaging in cost of $350 and upwards of $900 for the one-of-a-kind dresses. GENETTE SALGADO will be available on consignment basis at local boutiques.
