H.R. 1254, and S. 605 are in the hands of the Senate awaiting passage or actions of some type. PopvoX Polls show 91% of survey takers oppose these bills, will the Senate defy the People again?

(Free-Press-Release.com) February 7, 2012 --
The two Bills in the US Senate, HR 1254, and S. 605, are meant to address the arising issues with so called designer drugs. The bills attempt to ban specific compounds, classes of compounds, and the effects of compounds. (it will be the first time in history that U.S. government banned the effect of a chemical). All of these bundled into one bill that makes more than fifteen compounds crossing ten different chemical classes, schedule one drugs. (heroin and cocaine are schedule 2) This is very unpopular with Americans who, in general, appear to be fed up with the War on Drugs and it looks like the very unpopular Senate, will seal their status as unpopular with this vote.
A Popvox survey run by GovTrack.com shows that 91% of poll takers are opposed to these bills becoming laws. Many of the comments focus on the criminalization of a now legal product. Others point out the fact that the bill includes compounds that are so different that they should never be included or considered together in a single law. And other still focus on the economical impact this bill can have during a recessional economy.
Some of the comments include : From Californias 9th Congressional District "Please, we don't need to keep expanding the expensive and ineffective war on drugs. What will this bill do? Send more people to prison who are otherwise intelligent, peaceful, contributing members of society? Waste valuable resources on these "crimes" that are hurting no one? Bills like these are out of touch with the needs of our communities."
another pollster commented : "This is a multi-billion dollar a year business. Think of all the monies that states alone have made in sales taxes...let alone what our Federal Government has made. Restrictions are something to consider, but banning these already wanted substances will only make it harder on our Countries fiscal situation. We want out of the recession, not deeper in it."
WiseTexan commented : "As a texas resident, I see the direct reflection between outlawing this and increasing illicit drug usage. While it does not affect me personally, I know of two people who quit using marajuana successfully by utilizing some products that were "banned" on September 1st. Between their situation, and the border war with Mexico, you are literally signing the death warrants of thousands upon thousands of mexicans. These types of laws are passed and the end result is that the demand for illicit drugs will increase. The war on drugs is (and always has been) a complete failure."
It seems like the Congress has lost its ear to the people and are reacting to Law Enforcement propaganda and misinformation and not their voting populations.
