New DiscountVouchers.co.uk Survey Finds 25% of British People Ignorant of Partner's Salary

The website's latest user research uncovered that 27.25% of people do not know how much money their partner makes. Further to this, the poll showed that twice as many women as men have secret bank accounts into which they funnel money. 8% of women admitted to doing this compared to 4% of men.

Many people continue to lie to partners about how much they pay for outfits, with the DiscountVouchers.co.uk survey finding 43% of women having done so. 17% of men confessed to the same practice, with both genders saying that it is a guilty conscience which causes this.

The voucher codes website sought to gauge spending habits and discovered that 40% of people surreptitiously look at their partner's bank and credit card statements. Almost 10% however admitted that they never really look at their own financial correspondence.

Psychologist Dr Penny Goldsbrough says: “There is a fear in trusting a partner and this can lead people to become sneaky, looking at bank accounts and opening secret accounts and so on. This is quite fundamentally due to fear of the unknown and lack of self esteem and worrying that their partner may leave them.”

Dr Goldsbrough continues: “In psychology we often find that women copy their own mother's behaviour, and this can lead to them being secretive about money and lying about what they pay for things. There is also a natural guilt linked to spending money, and yet people really do love doing just that!”
