New EMA recruit, Memory to perform at DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING Gala & collection drive, the 1ST ANNUAL alternative prom event for terminally ill young adults

New EMA recruit Memory (Linh Pham) will be performing in the first Dance Like No One is Watching Gala in Raleigh, NC scheduled for Friday, May 27, 2011. This alternative prom-themed event is for just under 200 terminally-ill young adults in the RDU area of North Carolina. Naomi Sjostedt-Smith was inspired to organize this event after seeing a young adult being denied service in a prom store because she was wheelchair-bound. Dealing with chronic disease herself, Naomi decided to collect prom attire and accessories for other ill and disadvantaged youth. After coverage by WRAL, the local newstation, Naomi learned that the Make a Wish Foundation was unable to fulfill the wish of two local youths: Stephen and Bradford. In addition to attending a prom, Stephen's request to ride a motorcycle will be granted. Bradford's dying wish is to see Cirque de Soleil. Inspired by these wishes, Naomi has now organized a large prom-themed event that will feature a performance showcase of local aerialists, acrobats, poi spinners, and hoopers.

All services and goods are donations. DJ FM and Memory are helping coordinate collection of the most-needed items in the week before the event. We particularly need accessories like shawls, scarves, tiaras, and jewelry; suit components; and plus-sized gowns. Donation bins will be set up at Raleigh Revolution's Prom Event at the Lincoln Theater on Friday, May 20th. Cash donations, assistance with hair and makeup before the gala, and performers are still needed as well.

DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING is a group of individuals,both non-profit and business owners that have taken a concept from life and ran with it. The goal of the organization is to provide individuals that normally wouldn't be able to attend their prom, school dances, or similar events due to a disability or illness and create an event "just for them" that is truly memorable. http://serindipitywings.tripod.com/dancelikenooneiswatchinggala/
