Since the late 1950’s engineers and engineering software programs have utilized the Finite Element Method (FEM) of analysis for simulation in a variety of engineering disciplines including the structural, mechanical, aeronautical, biomechanical, and automotive branches. While FEM has been the preferred method for almost a half a century, it suffers from one very significant shortcoming. It lacks the ability to efficiently simulate the breaking of objects.

The Applied Element Method has been engineered and designed to tackle FEM’s limitations. Specifically, AEM addresses the issue of the separation of elements through the use of both a distinct meshing technique and the employment of spring connections. This, in turn, grants AEM the ability to automatically account for the initiation and propagation of cracks, the separation of elements, and any impending collisions.

General information about the Applied Element Method (AEM), a library of references and publications, and current applications of the new technology, can be found by visiting www.appliedelementmethod.com.
