New Fastest Furniture World Record Attempt aimed to raise Awareness for Children with Down Syndrome

August 27, 2010

An attempt has been launched to raise awareness for Children with Down Syndrome by beating the existing world record for fastest furniture (currently held by a motorized sofa - an amazing 92mph).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 27, 2010 -- Alastair Galpin has been working over a period of months on a new world record attempt, which is aimed to raise the profile of the Auckland Down Syndrome Associaiton (ADSA) here in New Zealand. Various members of the team have been touched by people with Downs over the years, and we are therefore highly supportive of this cause - seeing the fulfilling lives which these people can have, make us all the more appreciative of our own well being.

We have chosen a world record attempt which is bound to attract wide media coverage in all formats, and therefore should form a great opportunity for promoting ADSA and Down Syndrome in general, as well as other sponsors.

You may well have heard of current world records for the fastest furniture - yes, if you can build an armchair or a bed, capable of high speeds, then you too might be able to hold a world record.

We have actually completed the main build and design, with the aim of beating the current world record for the fastest furniture (currently 148 km/h (92 mph) held by Marek Turowski for driving a motorized sofa).

Our record attempt will be a motorized bed, which may not be as aerodynamic as a sofa, but looks more fun to drive!

We are therefore looking to raise funds to complete this build - including obtaining the outer cladding to put the clothes on the vehicle, so to speak.

This world record attempt is set to generate a lot of media. We've had enquiries internationally. It will be available commercially after the record attempt - we encourage you to do something different when you use it, and break away from regular promotional tactics.

Help us finish the project to make the world's fastest bed.

We are particularly interested in corporate sponsorship of the attempt by insurance companies and bed manufacturers, taking into account the nature of the world record attempt.

However, if you are an individual who would like to support the attempt, remember that every dollar helps (as they say). So we have also created a simple way to show support through a Facebook application, Sponsor Me.

Once the record attempt has been completed, the functional vehicle will then be available for promotional hire. There will be special rates for Down Syndrome groups wishing to continue to use the vehicle to raise awareness.

Specially designed spaces on the vehicle allow children with Down Syndrome to experience supervised rides at their special events. They will be sure to enjoy "fame" in photo shoots, and using the vehicle will draw attention to Down Syndrome in general.

ADSA have created a video in support of the attempt, which also highlights the great work that they do - this video can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vk3-dcfCFg.
