New jobs in Cornwall

January 26, 2012

New jobs have been created by Cornish carpet company, Hardy Carpets, with the promise of more to come.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 26, 2012 -- Three new jobs have been created as a result of a big expansion at Hardy Carpets, with the promise of more to come. The company’s St Austell site has undergone a major revamp to open a new upstairs showroom devoted to rugs and remnants, allowing the company to expand their range of carpets and vinyls downstairs.

‘It’s quite unusual to be creating jobs in the current economic climate,’ said Hardy Carpets director Adrian Hayes, ‘but we are delighted to be in a position to do so. And we anticipate recruiting more staff very soon. The new showroom means we can offer one of the biggest selections of rugs and remnants in the south west.

‘This is great news in our 40th anniversary year and also in a particularly tough time for retailing. We depend on customer loyalty and recommendation and we’ve kept our heads down and got on with the job in hand.’

Mr Hayes said he was looking forward to Furniture World and HBH Woolacotts electrical retailers joining them at the Gover Road site.

‘It will be a one stop shop for all your home requirements,’ he said. ‘And I’m very proud to say we are all local independent companies rather than nationals. We also pride ourselves on serving our customers well, old and new.’

Hardy Carpets began trading in 1971 at St Clement Street in Truro, offering a very different dimension to carpet buying. Richard Hardy filled the shop to the gunwhales with rolls of carpet so that the customer could take away their carpet there and then. It was a formula that worked so well that the company quickly moved to a bigger site next door which is the company headquarters today.

When Mr Hardy retired in 1991, a staff buy-out enabled the business to continue with the same ethos of clear pricing and value for money. In 2001, the company opened the St Austell store and expanded into commercial business, supplying pubs, clubs, shops, offices, restaurants, hotels and national building contractors.

This new expansion in St Austell marks another milestone in the Hardy Carpets success story and a triumph for local business.
