San Antonio, TX (Dec. 2009)-- Flying knees, heavy punches and elaborate limb twisting have made martial arts one of the world’s fastest-growing sports attractions, and now the developers of a new online martial arts site say there’s a way for everyone, regardless of their age, to master the art without ever leaving home.
“Now available for the first time ever, you can learn all the techniques required for promotion from white to black belt with online video instruction in the exact order and lesson format that you would experience in private lessons at the Aikijutsu Academy,” said Armando Toral, instructor and spokesman for the academy.
The academy, which teaches students Aikijutsu, a self-defense system used by the Samurai in ancient Japan for close combat fighting, uses web-based video instruction that allows participants to learn and master this martial art from the comfort of their own home.
“With our evaluation process, we will be able to monitor progress, evaluate skills, and assess student’s eligibility for official belt promotions on their journey to Aikijutsu mastery,” Toral explained.
The launch of the site may prove to have perfect timing.
According to a recent study by the American Martial Arts Association (AMAA), popularity and growth in the martial arts has grown more 30% over the past two years.
“It teaches discipline and respect,” said Ross B. Radke of the AMAA. “It turns into self-confidence and young people then go out and do whatever they choose to do in life to become successful.”
Aikijutsu, Toral said, utilizes the opponent's movement or intention in order to subdue them, usually through joint manipulation and throwing techniques.
Toral, a third-degree black belt, who has practiced Aikijutsu for more than 20 years, said once a student joins the academy, he or she will receive immediate access to the members area, which includes instructional video lessons, enabling students to start learning right away.
“Every 30 days from enrollment a new module with the video lessons is added to the members page, where they’ll have access to all the modules they’ve already studied,” said Toral.
Roy Benitez, a black belt in several martial arts said he’s impressed with the online Aikijutsu Academy membership and the fact that anyone can learn the martial art of the Samurai without ever stepping foot into a dojo.
“I had the opportunity to watch Armando's videos before the academy launched and I was very impressed with the quality, the step by step explanation is just very clear and the execution of his techniques is impeccable,” Benitez said.
“I haven't seen any other online program as good as this one. If you are looking for a real life self defense system, I can't think of anything better than this.”
