New Orleans Style Funerals Go Ahead in the UK Despite the Winter Weather

Dan Darling and his Lovely Chaps have had to adapt to current weather conditions. For the brass players this means plastic mouthpieces, for the banjo player this means fingerless gloves. The bands tuba player has taken to putting a pair of his wife’s stockings over the bell to stop snow clogging the instrument up!

“Luckily I was in Aldis supermarket when they had an offer on thermal underwear” said Jeff Williams (aka Dan Darling). “I managed to supply the whole band at a very reasonable price. When you are standing by a grave 3 degrees below you don`t want to be seen jumping up and down to keep warm. It does rather take away from the gravitas of the proceedings”

Since the bad weather hit around the 19th of December Dan and the chaps have had five New Orleans Funerals to attend and play for. “Even at the low temperatures we manage to get a smile on everyone’s faces when we strike up with When The Saints Come Marching In” Says Jeff. “Its not quite the same as playing in New Orleans, but we get the same result, a celebration of the deceased’s life and give comfort to those who attend.”
