New Recycling Mural Displays In Hailsham Town Centre

April 29, 2010

New mural displays at the Vicarage Field car park recycling site have now been installed, replacing the existing weather-damaged murals produced almost two years ago.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 29, 2010 -- Working under the supervision of youth workers and a local graffiti artist, young people from the Square Youth Café contributed to the painting of the recycling-inspired graffiti designs onto the mural boards, yet another project organised by the Town Council’s Hailsham In Bloom Committee this year.

‘The Square’ was awarded with an O2 It’s Your Community grant of £300 towards the mural painting project, as part of a nationwide initiative to connect young people into their communities through local youth development schemes such as the Green & Clean project. The grant facilitated the purchase of paints, overalls and safety masks required to carry the project out safely.

A spokesperson for Hailsham In Bloom said “I’m extremely proud of the finished product and it’s wonderful to know that a little piece of Hailsham has been made more beautiful. The young people who designed and painted the murals must be applauded for their efforts in doing something great for their local community and making recycling more interesting and noticeable for residents.”

He added “It is hoped that the new mural displays will be well received by South & South East in Bloom judges during their visit to the town this summer.”

To add to the committee’s efforts, a local Brownie group has agreed to redesign and repaint the weather-damaged murals located at the Victoria Road recycling point. It is estimated that the final designs for the murals will be received by the end of April 2010 and the new murals painted and installed in May.
