NEW TECHNOLOGY SIMPLIFIES ROOT CANAL PROCEDURES ACCORDING TO DENTIST FROM WEST VALLEY’S PIONEER VALLEY DENTAL
Rotary endodontics simplify the root canal procedure.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 22, 2011 --
Until recently, dentists performing root canals were required to use manual files that took a lot of time and effort. According to Pioneer Valley Dental’s Dr. Austen Broadbent, “Now, rotary endodontics, or the ability to perform the work of cleaning out the roots of a tooth with special, mechanized instruments, has made this procedure faster, more comfortable, and with higher success rates and healing.”
Dr. Broadbent has been utilizing rotary endodontics at Pioneer Valley since 2009. “The root canal is the naturally occurring canal that runs through the roots of each tooth, leading to a pulp chamber. These canals can become infected by large cavities, causing a toothache. When this happens, we can now use rotary endodontics to clear out the infection quickly and thoroughly,” Dr. Broadbent said.
As is the case with traditional root canal procedures, the process begins with the dentist giving the patient a local anesthetic to numb the pain (in some cases, patients may also opt to use nitrous oxide and/or an oral sedative). Once the affected area is numb and the patient is comfortable, the dentist can remove the infection and complete the root canal treatment in 30 to 45 minutes. After the infection is removed, the root canals are sealed and the tooth is rebuilt with modern composite material. Dr. Broadbent says a crown is then required to keep the tooth strong and functional for many years.
Dr. Broadbent is the oldest son of Dr. Thomas Broadbent (the founder of Pioneer Valley Dental). He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah and his D.M.D. degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia in May 2009.
