New York, World Will Go Green In Support of Iran

September 14, 2009

Week of September 22, 2009, New York, and the world, will be going Green in support of human rights in Iran

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) September 14, 2009 -- After September 11, 2001 the world's people declared themselves Americans in solidarity after the attacks on the World Trade Centre. In Tehran alone, some 100,000 people held an illegal candlelight vigil to show their support of the American people.

The week of September 22, 2009, New York, and the world, will return the kindness by going Green in support of human rights in Iran.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to be in New York next week to address the United Nations General Assembly and hold meetings in an effort to forge new alliances. We want to make sure he - and the world's representatives - see and hear our protest against the rape, torture, murder and unjust detainment of protesters and other political prisoners. No to Ahmadinejad, yes to democracy and human rights.

This marks the first NYC protest organized by people from all over the world, from Tokyo moms to Mexican grandfathers (and, of course, many New Yorkers), and it all came together through the social media, where thousands of people contributed ideas, contacts, technical know-how and artwork.

Organizers and volunteers have taken their lead and inspiration from the protesters in Iran. It is a people's movement that has grown from the ground up. For months now, the world has watched as Iranians of all ages, classes and walks of life have risked everything to fight for their basic human rights and a a little of the freedom we often take for granted. People have died for simply attending a protest, wearing a green ribbon, or shouting "God is Great," from their rooftops. We have heard the stories of unspeakable torture, and of people being raped to death in prison. We have listened to the Green Movement's call for the world's peaceful support of their cause and we have heard the Iranian regime's cynical belief that the world doesn't care and cannot stop them. Next week, we will answer them.

Some of the projects involved include:

"Join us as we call for freedom of speech and assembly, and freedom for all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience."
