New young girls adventure novel entitled THE GEMINI SPELL by Jennie Dodd is published

Whilst riding in the Australian outback a chance encounter with creatures from a magic kingdom results in teenage sisters - Dakota and Chaney - attempting a perilous mission. The girls and their horses - Star and Galaxy - find themselves risking life and limb in two races. They embark on a race against time to save a fairy whose life hangs in the balance. She can only be healed by taking her to a Shaman. The second race - the Annual National Endurance Championship- becomes a race for survival where losing is not an option. Enemies have been made and the girls find themselves targeted by a dark and vengeful force.


About the Author:

Jennie Dodd lives in Bucknell, Shropshire. She recently retired as a teacher and now devotes her time to writing. Jennie has enjoyed telling children's stories for over 40 years and draws on many of her own experiences at school for inspiration. Jennie has also written a series of adventure stories about a frog named Gregory Green-legs in the same style as Wind in the Willows.


Excerpts from the book:

"Steadfast determination not to be defeated and courage not to be overcome, kept them going. The two horses and their riders bravely galloped on and the merciless flames followed, engulfing all in their path. The air was full of heavy suffocating smoke and the heat was blistering. Temporarily blinded by the heat and smoke they reined their horses to a halt, rubbing their aching eyeballs, desperately seeking the white markers they needed to show them their path of escape. The horror of the situation was made worse by the dreadful uncertainty as to how their family was faring, not to mention all the other riders and horses in the event. The smoke cleared in a sudden gust of wind, and the white markers pointing the way were visible once more.”

“She was standing in a huge cavern with enormous tunnels branching off from the main chamber in all directions. Giant stalactites hung from the high rock ceiling above, and even more monstrous stalagmites jutted out from the floor below, pointing upwards like troll’s fingers at their ethereal brothers and sisters. She could hear the sound of dripping water and, glancing around, noticed rock pools on every side of the cavern, each with its own reflected colour. The pools seemed to emanate their own light, and green, red and turquoise hues radiated off the smooth shiny rock which lined the interior of the cave. More beautiful still were the thousands of gossamer threads draped across the cavern walls and bedecking the entire roof high above them. They appeared as bright, dazzling necklaces of sparkling silver reflecting the light from the pools below, and on which were strung millions upon millions of miniature tear-shaped pearls.

‘Spider webs,’ said Kyle, ‘and their eggs.’ A fact which immediately burst Dakota’s bubble and broke the illusion altogether.”
