http://www.ambroseacademy.com Ambrose Academy is the inaugural winner of Nickelodeon’s Parents’ Picks Award for 2009, for best family friendly business in the martial arts category. All Parents' Picks businesses are nominated based on recommendations from Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect local city editors who live and work in the cities they cover, in conjunction with feedback from the ParentsConnect community. Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect is the online resource for parenting advice and community.
On winning the award, Rocco Ambrose said, “This award is validation from parents and Nickelodeon, that our mission to help children be the best they can be through leadership, awareness, and safety is what families want. The martial arts class is just the vehicle used to get them there.”
“My focus is on bringing realistic safety programs to the community to keep our most vulnerable citizens safer and healthier,” says, Ambrose. “Stranger Smart© is a program that takes the message of stranger safety from an abstract concept to concrete rules and steps that children can understand. The steps are easy to learn and are remembered long after the child has seen the program.” Mr. Ambrose has presented this program for over fifteen years to local schools and organizations.
Commissioner Diane Webb has been instrumental in bringing the program into the community by offering Stranger Smart© to schools, community centers, Kids’ Safety Park Days, and other venues in Garden City, Redford, and Dearborn Heights. She has also partnered with fellow Wayne County Commissioners, to offer the program to nearby communities, most recently with Commissioner Joan Gebhardt and Commissioner Laura Cox at the Livonia YMCA.
