In teaching eBusiness and Marketing for over ten years at the University of Phoenix (including the Reno campus), there has been a lot of confusion of what ebusiness is, and how to succeed.

Step One: Clearly Define Demographics for Customer Base

The first issue is demographics, and how a etailer defines the demographics. For example, an online camera seller offers high end digital cameras in 2005 could sustain $150,000 to $200,000 a year in revenue from the garage, while working full time elsewhere.

The market has changed, as there is almost no market for digital cameras since cell phones have replaced the need for cameras in general. Be sure there is a market for the product or service being offered.

Step Two: Create the Architecture for the Website
Select a Template for website use. A single page website will not have high rankings. Minimum pages are “About Us,” “Legal,” “Security,” and “Site Map.” The home page needs links for these pages, and each page should have a unique title.

Step Three: Key Word Assumption Testing

Business owners think they understand the differences in key words. There is a difference between “kitchen remodeling” and “kitchens remodeling.” When tested with artificial intelligence against the Yahoo and Google databases, “kitchen remodeling” has more traffic. Be sure to test assumed keywords against the Google and Yahoo databases to verify assumptions.

Step Four: Web Site Design
Most web surfers do not find what they are searching for. A etailer, there is a four second decision process to consider you as a potential seller by the consumer. The home page must deliver the content presented to the searcher in the Google Database. The first impression may be the last impression. Good Design Providing The Searched Content will yield the best results.

Step Five: Webhosting

The technical side of etailing is important in that the webhost provides the basic foundation for your etail solution. Reliability, redundancy, products offered, available bandwidth, and ease of use are all considerations. Email services are attached to the webhosting. Web4less Internet Services utilizes a server farm in Salt Lake City for primary servers, and backup servers in Reno, Nevada.

Web4Less Internet Servers are optimized at the root level for Bing, Google, and Yahoo.

There could be tax consequences on where you etail solutions is hosted; states may start charging sales tax based on the server location.

Step Six: Statistical Software

Analytical software is needed to track and graph site usage, entry pages, and exit pages. Ranking in Google is not effective unless the title and header can be tracked to evaluate effectiveness. Web4Less Internet Services offers a strong statistical software across search engines: Bing, Google, and Yahoo.

Step Seven: Press Release Management
Press Releases add content to the Bing, Google, and Yahoo databases. Regular press releases will increase rankings, and placement in major search engines. Press Releases will also move other competitors down in the first page rankings. Regular press releases are your best investment.

Step Eight: Test Results
Test assumptions with Bing, Google and Yahoo. Test to see if website is on the first page. If not, tune the website and repost.

Step Nine: Start A Daily Routine: Check Statistics, Review the Number of Hits to the Press Release, edit the home page for content updates, and weekly post a new press release.

Content Is King. Change Content often, update, delete, rewrite.
