Nissan’s NV200 Has Been Chosen as New York City’s “Taxi of Tomorrow”

This fine vehicle is the winner of a competition to design a purpose-built taxi made specifically for New York City. The selection process was intense and lasted over two years, but Nissan’s superior engineering put the NV200 over the top. Ford Motor Co. and Karsan were the other two finalists, proving that Nissan won out over impressive competition.

Part of the program also involves Nissan working with New York City and taxi owners on a pilot program designed to study the viability of using electric, zero-emission vehicles as taxis, and Nissan will supply six Leafs (Nissan’s all-electric vehicle) for the purpose of the study. Meanwhile, the NV200 itself will sport a 2.0L four-cylinder engine, increased room for passengers and their luggage, a low-annoyance horn, and a transparent roof panel to give passengers an exciting view of the city. With it, Nissan has demonstrated once again their impressive capacity for blending quality components, stylish design elements, and functionality.
