FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 25, 2011 -- It was a miraculous thing, no one was hurt on Friday when a semitrailer drove off Interstate 15, careened down an embankment and crashed into a curb on Red Cliffs Drive in St. George.

The truck was driving northbound on I-15 at about 6 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, the driver veered to the right, crashed through a guardrail and barreled down the embankment and onto Red Cliffs Drive.

The truck came to a stop at a curb in front of the Arctic Circle restaurant near 1680 East, where a crowd of several dozen people gathered to take photos and watch the aftermath of the accident. It stayed upright the entire time and was astonished neither the driver nor anyone else was hurt, considering the truck crashed on Red Cliffs Drive during one of the busiest times of the day.

There was one southbound car and was 20 feet forward , would have been hit, "For this guy to come off the freeway at 6 o'clock and not hit someone is utterly amazing."

The driver, 53-year-old Michael Scott of Mecosta, Mich., was suspected of driving under the influence at the time of the accident, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the truck, and Scott was arrested following the accident on charges of marijuana possession, paraphernalia possession and driving under the influence-metabolite.

The person said that he didn't remember the accident or what caused, it appeared the driver Scott was driving at a speed of about 55 miles per hour when he drove off the freeway, adding there were no brake marks that would show he tried to stop or avoid an accident. There's nothing to indicate why he went off the road.

Traffic on Red Cliffs Parkway was closed for about two hours Friday as crews cleaned up debris from the accident. The truck was completely destroyed and a tow truck was required to remove it from the scene.

Witness Blanche Barnum said she was inside the Article Circle when the accident happened. Though she missed the initial impact, she said she saw the truck violently come to a stop. They saw him bouncing around with all this stuff flying off his truck

The lady Barnum was astonished to see the truck remain upright and to watch the driver walk away uninjured. "He must have had about 4,000 angels holding that truck up," she said. "I don't know how he missed everyone."

St. George resident and truck driver Brant Graff said he saw the hole in the guardrail while driving on I-15 and decided to join the crowd in front of Arctic Circle to see what happened.

Graff says that from a truck driver's perspective he can't believe that he stayed upright, the whole thing was amazing.

Based on the fact that no one was hurt, the incident was even more impressive.
