There’s no last dance for Susan Perron, who will perform with her dance partner, Jonathan, at the Abilities Center this Saturday, September 26, 2009, because she’s dancing for the people whose lives she transforms every day.

Susan Perron, President and CEO of Abilities Center of Southern NJ, Inc., raised over $53000 in “Dancing with the Gloucester County Stars”. She leads the Community Winner and raised one of the highest amounts in the history of the competition – over $53000.

This Saturday, September 26 between 2-5 pm, the Abilities Center will have its first Starlight Ball for people with disabilities where Susan will present the check to the people it directly benefits. “Bringing it back to them is what it really is all about”, said Perron.

Almost 100 people with disabilities are gathering at the Center on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 2-5 pm for a “Starlight Ball” to support Susan’s hard work in the Gloucester County Dancing with the Stars competition. To honor those she danced for to raise money, Susan and her dance partner, Jonathan, will also perform and recreate their finale for the Starlight Ball guests.

“This dance raised funds for the dancing effort and brings everything full circle”, said Susan Perron.

Susan was among six notable area leaders invited to compete in the event, which takes place over several weeks and culminates in a finale on September 24 at Auletto’s Caterers in Deptford, NJ. Susan chose the Abilities Center as her cause, a nonprofit she has led for over 15 years, and is personally donating one hundred percent of the competition expense.

“I have been involved in many worthy organizations but the Center is my life’s work and my passion. Of course, it’s the benefactor of my ‘Dancing’, “said Susan. “I’m so proud that my caring staff has stepped up to raise funds for the Center and its programs in this way.”

“The need for our services has increased just when our funding has decreased, “said Sharon Kneubuehl, Abilities Center Vice-President.

The Abilities Center of Southern New Jersey, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit which opened in 1963 and provides center-based, community-based, school-to-career and vocational evaluation services to about 800 people annually. Under Susan Perron’s leadership, it has grown to serve people in Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, Cumberland, Salem, Cape May and Atlantic Counties. The Center has placed nearly 1000 people in competitive employment over the past 5 years.

The Greater Woodbury Chamber of Commerce selects six leading figures in Gloucester County annually to compete in “Dancing with the Gloucester County Stars” to raise funds for their favorite charity. The competitors raise funds in the community as “votes” but every cent raised belongs to the individual charity.
