No More Dublin Dr Pepper in Blazing Star Books Publications

The corporate takeover of Dublin Dr Pepper may have important consequences to Blazing Star Books, LLC. The small town bottler is point of pride in the company’s home town and is mentioned in several publications produced by the small publisher. “Ridin’ Around – Taillights in Chrome – 8-Tracks on Wheels” in particular features funny and entertaining scenes with the beverage. With the changes in the Dublin bottler, it remains unclear what consequences of references to “Dublin Dr Pepper” in publications may transpire.

As a small publisher in a rural area, Blazing Star Books must rely on local support in its efforts to create meaningful content for the reader. The Dublin Dr Pepper Plant in Dublin, Texas is a local institution, the site of book signings, motorcycle rallies, and many a family outing. The value to the writer is access to a historic and iconic building filled with great memorabilia and wonderful people.

Passages in “Ridin’ Around” feature the consumption of ice cold Dublin Dr Pepper. The author is concerned Corporate Dr Pepper may take issue with the use of the name in her book. If they go after the small bottler, why not the small publisher?

But since the copyright on “Ridin’ Around” is in 2010, Corporate Dr Pepper should not harassr the author and publisher as they have Dublin Dr Pepper. Emphasis on “should.” It is a sad day in Texas for Dublin Dr Pepper lovers and for Blazing Star Books, LLC.
