Acting singing Dancing Writing Producing Directing and Most Of All Giving Back to the People..

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Manhattan, New York, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) July 19, 2011 -- Choices

Inside the Painted Bride Theater in the heart of downtown Philadelphia, on Saturday, July 15, sat a few hundred people that went home oozing with positive comments on their one-of-a-kind experience. Choices, written by Laquanda Macullum wasn’t your average play, it was real life placed on stage for the ultimate entertainment experience. Throughout the play the crowd simultaneously laughed, grew empathetic, and in some way, felt connected. The scenarios, setting, and characters of the play were of those that most of the members of the audience could relate to. The play did more than entertain or move people like most, this play brought into everyone’s consciousness how their choices can alter their life’s journey. Despite destiny, one choice, right or wrong, can change the course of life, forever.

Backstage of the production I was able to get exclusive interviews with cast members, promoters of the play, and the men of No Question, that had the ladies (single or not) screaming from their seats. Desmond Woods made his debut as Al, the inner city “thug” of the play, and sat with me backstage to give me some insight of how he got into character. Since most of the other actors were more seasoned, they gave him the advice to make his performance the success it was. “Al”, as Desmond described him, was like Tupac in Juice, the get down and dirty type that likes to play with guns, and lives in a land where violence is like air to him. Now, Desmond states that he is ready for Hollywood. By judging what I saw, that comment was an understatement. On the contrary, Hollywood may not be ready for Desmond because real actors are rare and scarce nowadays. With musicians and athletes gaining leading roles, I think Hollywood may have forgotten where true talent lies. A real actor not only shows their emotions, but they make the audience feel the emotion they are trying to portray. The casting director for Choices definitely reminded me that is what true talent is, and showed me real-like situations doesn’t have to be as fake as “reality TV”.

There are a few ingredients that go into a successful play. A lot as to do with the writing and the actual story, some is costume, some is props, and obviously the acting, but the singing—the singing took Choices from a play into production and a potential franchise. If these voices were on radio, the music industry could possibly be the most powerful force in the world, instead of just another commodity. Each original song was accompanied by background singers that were back stage harmonizing with the lead singers, giving the full musical experience, fully equipped with a live band as well.

This play could’ve gotten any better, except for the fact that No Question sang their world renown hit, “I don’t care during the party scene of the play, and then came back and gave a mini-concert during intermission. Between C-Dubbs powerful voice and Dante’s stimulating tenor 1 notes, the crowd had no CHOICE but to give them a standing ovation before the second act. During their mini-concert, Damon, Nick, C-Dubb ( Corey), and Dante’ came onto the stage confidentially in custom-made vests and enough swag to fill the room. The quartet did two songs off of their new album coming by the end of the Summer/early Fall. In addition to new material, No Question had the entire audience singing along to the late Teddy Pendergrass’s “Miss You”. After witnessing such conviction of notes, tones, and harmonies, one thing is for sure, Teddy would have been proud in the theater that day. The group will be showcased in another play on July 30th at the Mariam Theater in the next hit play, “For Better or For Worst”, written by Rick Watson.

Any investor will tell you that a play is only as successful as their promoter, and after seeing the filled auditorium, I had to speak to the man behind the plan Isaac, also known as Izzy Ike, owner of IM3 Media. IM3 Media handles all types of event promotions from corporate venues to weddings. He discussed with me the precautions that he took with writer Laquanda to make Choices such a must-see success. He explained that he had numerous meetings with Laquanda to gather ideas on how they wanted to promote the event. Since this was far from his first time around the block, I can see why there was such a huge buzz. Im3 media is an event marketing company. They recently had their annual event called, “The Come Back”. The first year they put on the event, they honored a Mrs. Deana Williams, who is known in the industry as a media coach. 32 years ago, Mrs. Williams and legendary Kenny Gamble got a bill passed that declared June as black music month.
