The N.H. Preservation Alliance wants to hear from you! In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the statewide non-profit historic preservation organization is seeking nominations for milestone preservation projects of the last 25 years. Go to wwww.nhpreservation.org to cast your vote by December 30.

New Hampshire can take pride in being the home of many projects that are considered milestones in the history of the modern preservation movement. The rescue of Portsmouth properties that became Strawbery Banke; the revitalization of mills in Harrisville; the revival of the Wentworth-by-the-Sea Hotel; and the rescue and re-use of the Daniel Webster Farm in Franklin are a few examples. The preservation of these highly significant places was exemplary for the many challenges overcome and the positive impacts on local communities and the state.

“No doubt this ensemble of milestone projects will help showcase the economic and social benefits of historic preservation and lay the foundation for the challenges and opportunities ahead,” said Jennifer Goodman, executive director of the Preservation Alliance. Tenacious civic and business leaders, innovative adaptations of old buildings for new uses and, at times, incentives like New Hampshire’s Land and Community Heritage Investment Program and the federal historic preservation tax incentives, have been critical to these projects’ success, she said.

Selection criteria include the significance of the resource; the degree of challenge or innovation; and the impact on local communities or the state.

The Preservation Alliance is a non-profit, membership organization committed to the preservation of historic buildings, communities and landscapes through leadership, education and advocacy. More at www.nhpreservation.org.
