Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) will present the musical “The Secret Garden.”

Chicago, Illinois, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) March 22, 2011 -- Northeastern Illinois University Presents “The Secret Garden”

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) will present the musical “The Secret Garden.” Directed by Sasha Gerritson, instructor, music, the musical is based on the classic children’s book by Frances Hodgson Burnett and was adapted for the stage by Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon in the early 1990s. Securing funding to launch the musical was difficult. “No one wanted to take a chance on it because Norman and Simon are women,” said Gerritson.

“The Secret Garden’s” lyrics are by Marsha Norman, with music by Lucy Simon. It premiered on Broadway in 1991 and ran for 709 performances.
