Northeastern Illinois University to Host Conference that will Explore the Diversity of Chicago’s Albany Park Neighborhood

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) will host “Experience the World in Albany Park: Globalization in Our Backyard,” a sequence of more than 40 sessions and events culminating in a six-day conference.

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) will host “Experience the World in Albany Park: Globalization in Our Backyard,” a sequence of more than 40 sessions and events culminating in a six-day conference. Some of the event’s highlights include:
• Changing Worlds Photography and Oral History Exhibit: Between 1996 and 2000, fourteen Hibbard School families told their stories for this exhibit.
• Sustainable Design and Community Participation: Sculpture Park and Healing Garden in Ronan Park: North River Commission and its partners envision a sculpture garden where residents of the greater Albany Park area can find beauty and peace, where those who have fled the turmoil of their homeland can rest and renew.
• Geography and Responses to Natural Hazards in Greater Albany Park
• Gang Activity in Albany Park: Perceptions and Reality: Danny Siguenza from Cease Fire Albany Park speaks about gang presence in Albany Park.
• Remapping Albany Park: What Can We Learn?: What has changed in the past ten years?
• Exploring Our Histories, Sharing Stories Teaching Workshop: With Kay Berkson, Founder of Changing Worlds: Participants will learn how to engage students in activities that strengthen literacy and social studies curriculum and build community in the classroom.
• Houses of Worship in Albany Park: Then and Now: Lisa Berube looks at the history of religion in Albany Park
