SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2011, MILL VALLEY, CA — Dogs and their parents playing at Mill Valley's Off-Leash Dog Park on Saturday, September 10, will do a triple-take when a parade of three legged dogs joins in on the fun.
At 11:00 AM, the biggest gathering of three legged dogs in Northern California will take place, with canines and humans coming from as far away as Los Angeles to join in on the fun. The party is hosted by Tripawds.com, the world's largest community for canine amputees, affectionately known as “tripod” dogs.

http://tinyurl.com/NorCalTripawdPawty Tripawds offers support, resources and information for those whose dogs lose a leg due to cancer, accidents or birth defects. The online community includes nearly 3,000 members from around the world. In previous “Tripawd Parties” held around the West, Tripawds gatherings have drawn as many as 30 three legged dogs in a single afternoon.
From Colorado to Washington, these gatherings have been a fun way for pet parents to gather and empathize with others who have faced the difficult decision to amputate in order to improve their dog’s quality of life. In every instance, dogs live up to the group's motto, “It's better to hop on three legs than limp on four!”
Tripawds.com founders Jim Nelson and Rene Agredano of Texas began blogging about and videotaping their German Shepherd Jerry, after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and underwent a leg amputation in 2006.
Shortly after learning Jerry had just months to live, the family took to the road in a recreational vehicle to spread the word about “how awesome three-legged dogs can be.”
The couple's heartwarming journey was featured in the 2009 PBS documentary, “NATURE: Why We Love Cats and Dogs.” This Nature episode was one of the highest rated episodes of the series, and was produced by Emmy-award winning producer Ellen Goosenberg Kent.
INTERVIEWS: Various Tripawds members are scheduled to attend with their own three-legged dogs, and anyone interested is invited to come.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Numerous three-legged dogs from the Greater Los Angeles Area and as far away as Los Angeles will be available during the afternoon play session.
