FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 2, 2010 --
PHILADELPHIA, PA February 24, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. Milverstead Publishing, LLC, publishers of the novel, Not A Fire Exit, today announced an agreement with Philly-based StovetopCover.com, which will donate 10% of the retail price of each copy of Not A Fire Exit, up to $25,000 total, to fight Spinal Muscular Atrophy. SMA is a heart-breaking disease that affects 1 in 6000 infants each year. and is often fatal. Author Christopher Finlan, owner of local Milverstead Publishing, wrote Not A Fire Exit, using SMA as one of the elements of the novel when he learned of the SMA death of a former high school classmate’s baby. In its first two months of release, the charming and humorous mystery story has sold over 1,000 copies and raised over $5,500 for SMA awareness. Not a Fire Exit already has 10% of its profits earmarked for SMA donations, specifically to the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation, and this will more than double its contributions.
Steve Churchill, the founder of StovetopCover.com, was thrilled when Milverstead Publishing approached him. “It’s not often you see an opportunity like this, when someone really wants to give back. And hey, the book is good, also.“ StovetopCover.com creates a line of custom flat covers for stoves, a very useful (and therefore lucrative) product line, and Churchill was looking for a special opportunity to donate to a great cause.
“The whole point behind Milverstead Publishing, and Not a Fire Exit, was to raise awareness and cash, both of which we are doing.,” said Finlan. “Milverstead now has two other books published, and we’re going to do more. Our unique twist is that each book will give part of its profits to a charitable cause, so to have a partner like Steve Churchill doubles our results, which is just fantastic.”
Churchill is predictably modest about why he’s putting all this money up. “I’m just trying to help save a life or two. That could have been my kid with SMA, and this way I’m not just talking about how grateful I am, I’m doing something about it.”
