RE: PA Senate Passes Resolution Marking November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

NEWTOWN, PA - On Thursday October 8th the Pennsylvania State Senate voted unaminously to mark November 2009 as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. The resolution, which noted the advocacy efforts of Fund A Cure for Pancreatic Cancer, was initially jointly offered by State Senators Robert Mellow and Charles McIlhinney.

The chairman of Fund A Cure for Pancreatic Cancer, Dr. Robert Ciervo, was a guest of Senator McIlhinney and in the Senate gallery when the resolution passed.

"I was extremely thankful that Senator McIlhinney would take the lead in ensuring that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania once again mark November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Far too many Americans have little to no knowledge of this leading cancer killer nor how few federal dollars goes towards helping to find a cure and better detection methods. I was honored that Senator McIlhinney would comment on the work of our organization on the State Senate floor and also mentioned the name of my father who fought for 20 months against this disease", stated Ciervo.

He added "Though my sister and I founded Fund A Cure in honor of our father, we now know that we must continue on to help raise awareness of how quickly this disease can claim the life of a loved one and how Congress must act to force the National Cancer Institute to make research funding a priority. We will also be meeting with the research team at Jefferson University Hospital later this month to make a large donation to their efforts."
