FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 11, 2010 -- "Our event helps make Omaha a more educational and fun city!" states Ann Myers. She's been one of the volunteer organizers of Nuke Con for many years. "There are people that come from all over the country to participate."

"Nuke-con is a unique event," says Will Ross, a local author in his second year of being a convention guest. "These aren't just typical games. They're temporary escapes from reality. Nuke-Con is a place where people can get together and imagine together. Considering the state of the economy, I think we can all use a little mental vacation." From card games to board games, family events and miniatures, tournaments and even Live Action Roleplaying games, Nuke-Con has something for every type of gamer. And for people who need a break from gaming, there are authors' readings, educational panels, vendors, and Nuke-Con's famous art show/auction.

"A key event at Nuke-Con is the Art Show," says Ann Myers."Among the dozens of independent artists on display, many have done work for companies such as HDR, Marvel Comics, and other well-known publishers and businesses, and Nuke-Con devotes space every year to local up-and-coming creators. For a nominal fee, artists may choose just to show their pieces, but most sell their works outright or at the auction on Sunday afternoon."

Nuke-Con is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the educational, social development, and entertainment aspects of all types of games. In addition to its primary activity of the annual weekend of games, it also hosts periodic one-day game gatherings.

Through the generosity of the businesses and gamers who support the convention, Nuke-Con conducts a charity raffle each year. Past recipients have included the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Henry Doorly Zoo. Proceeds from the 2010 fundraiser will go to Toys for Tots.

The 20th Annual Nuke-Con Convention will take place on October 1, 2, and 3 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. The schedule of events is available at the Nuke-Con website. Advance registration is also available at the website, or payment can be made at the door.

With the popularity of online or internet gaming growing every year, many people have wondered what the future brings for the "face-to-face" or "tabletop" gaming. "When I say I run a Dungeons and Dragons game to anyone under the age of about 25," says Chelle Griffith, a local author and long-time convention attendee, "lots of times the younger set is surprised it's played literally around a table, with dice. They seem to think it's old-fashioned! Online gaming's convenient for getting people together in different locations, but nothing beats the face to face interactions with your friends. In a world of instant social networking, sometimes genuine connections with people get pushed aside in the name of convenience, but people still crave it. Face to face games aren't going away anytime soon."

Attendees this year can expect a wide variety of choice in activities, with something for everyone happening all weekend. The preregistration deadline is September 29th and makes an affordable event even more affordable! People who preregister save $9 on fees when they book for the whole weekend, or they can save $3 a day on a single day pass. For a complete list of pricing, attractions, games and other events available at the convention, check out the Nuke-Con website at www.weekendofgames.com.
