NWCAT Donates $10,000 to Shelter to Save Girls from Modern-Day Slavery

National (USA) - The Northwest Coalition Against Trafficking (NWCAT) in observance of National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month presented Friends of Maiti Nepal $10,000 to help continue rescuing and restoring the lives of children sold into the sex trade. “Friends of Maiti Nepal founder Anuradha Koirala has rescued thousands of women and children since 1993 from the sex trade; she is without a doubt the best for women and girls! She is everything Soroptimist stands for and our members are thrilled to know a few more people will be saved because of our contribution,” said Michelle Bart, NWCAT Conference Chair. Koirala was nominated by Demi Moore for her work on saving women and girls; the nomination won her the 2010 CNN Hero Award.

NWCAT was founded by Soroptimist International members in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. NWCAT is working to protect women and girls by informing and educating the public and media through conferences, educational trainings, movie consultation, film screenings, special events and speaking presentations. The organization is a coalition of many supporters working to Inform, Educate, and Protect women and girls from Human Labor and Sex Trafficking in the United States and around the world. Soroptimist International Northwestern Region is the second largest Soroptimist Region in the Federation (behind Japan). Over 100 clubs and 3,000 members service all the communities throughout Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and Northern Idaho.
