The Oakland Raiders, which have had a run of injuries this season, might not have the services of star players - quarterback Bruce Gradkowski and running back Darren McFadden – for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Gradkowski was knocked out last week after taking a savage hit on his shoulder from San Diego's Shaun Phillips, while McFadden is recovering from an injured right hamstring he picked up two weeks ago against Houston.
"There's some improvement with Bruce, but unless he could work tomorrow, then we kind of know where we're headed with it," said an upbeat coach Tom Cable, believing that if Gradkowski was healthy enough to play, he would likely be the starter on Sunday for the Raiders.
McFadden, on the other hand, has missed a couple of weeks in training camp due his left hamstring injury. However, he does not seem to be in any hurry to get back in the game fearing aggravating further his injury.
"You just try to tell yourself you just want to go out and try to coast, don't hit a burst until you feel like you can all the way," said McFadden, who has had a fast start this season, rushing for 345 yards in the first three games of the season as he finally started to show signs of why he was drafted fourth overall in 2008.
Troubled with a litany of hamstring injuries this season, Oakland do seem to be gallantly limping along with left guard Robert Gallery’s the more severe. However, he seems to have recovered sufficiently, and the Raiders seem prepared to get things going with Gallery, who has been out of play since picking up a hamstring against Tennessee.
"Until this week, I wasn't able to drive out of a stance," Gallery said. "You can't fight through that. I just have to be comfortable with the stuff I do in practice and go in a game and do that. Obviously, it's probably not going to feel great or 100 percent… nobody is… but if I can go, that's what I am going to do."
