OBAMA LEAVES KIDS WITH NO HOPE

In the middle of the current recession most charities are struggling financially to get their message out and are now depending more on volunteers. The Good Knight Child Empowerment Network’s youth crime and violence prevention program is no exception. Last year they activated groups of student volunteers from local public schools to help at fund raisers and safety programs in the Washington Metropolitan area to stem the tide against the lack of normal charitable giving due to the economy. One group of volunteers from Martin Luther King Middle School in Beltsville, Maryland was so impassioned with the efforts to protect children from the thousands of registered child sexual predators living in the Baltimore/Washington Region they convinced their team leader to write the First Lady requesting a five minute meeting to discuss their strategy on keeping all of America’s children safe. Their excitement was crushed a few weeks later when they received an email from the White House Scheduling Staff stating, “The First Lady values each and every opportunity she has to meet with individuals who are committed to improving their communities and our country… It is with sincere regret that we are unable to accommodate your request for a meeting with the First Lady.” Those words were tough enough for the enthusiastic group but the email ended with, “Please note…Replies to this email regarding additional or alternative requests or reconsideration cannot be answered.” What this told the kids was that no one at the White House is interested in what they have to offer and that left them with no place to go and unable to respond or ever ask again during the Obama’s time in the White House. The kids left the meeting at the charity with all hope lost. A few days later during the Martin Luther King’s Birthday school holiday, some of the kids decided to go to the movies to see “The Lovely Bones” a story about a serial child sexual predator who murdered young girls. Last night one of the student volunteers Arianna Cooper brought a letter to the charity that she wrote to President Obama complaining about the rude correspondence that the White House staff had sent. She felt that since the President claims “the buck stops here” she was sure that he was unaware that his staff was leaving kids who care with no hope.

The two page hand written letter begins, “My name is Arianna. I am 13…I have a complaint that embarrasses me for you and your wife Michelle…I feel that the children of our nation are suffering since we do very little to make a statement in how harmful predators are. Many people think if they keep their children locked away from the world they will be safe, but there is one problem. No one is safe from a person who will do anything to harm them…I am doing what you asked of us. You are my President and you have my support. I hope someday to meet you and have your support. Sincerely, Arianna Cooper.”
Arianna has asked the charity to share her letter.
