The difference between the two forms of mortgage loan reduction is that as per the Government mortgage refinance plan the homeowners will be able to receive interest rates to as low as 2% but the mortgage loan should be owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. However, home affordable modification program helps the homeowners by reducing the monthly mortgage payment to lower than 31% of the gross monthly income of the individual. Also under the Obama mortgage assistance plan and its refinancing arm the homeowner should owe in between 80% to 105% of the value of their home if they want to qualify for the making home affordable program. Qualifying for the Obama mortgage assistance plan also requires the homeowner to have a stable source of income and the mortgage loan should be availed on one’s primary property or residence.

Both the Obama Mortgage Relief and the home affordable modification program aim to reduce the burden of homeowners by lowering the interest rates or extending the term period of repayment of the original mortgage loan.
