According to the data available, many Norwood, MA homeowners search the internet with the terms "find a home improvement contractor", "find a deck contractor", and "find a remodeling contractor". Obviously, these are homeowners for whatever reason do not have a general contractor that they can rely on year after year to produce quality remodeling and repairs as needed for their home.
Obtaining Three Quotes For Your Home Remodeling Project?
Welcome visit Our WebSite:
http://www.general-contractor-norwood-ma-02062.com/ Finding a contractor is a daunting task and can create a lot of confusion and emotions when trying to obtain your home addition or remodeling project. In addition to the emotions, a home improvement project costs a substantial sum of money . The issue comes down to trust.
Many consumer advocates suggest obtaining three home improvement contractor bids. Though this is generally good advice, homeowners need to have a criteria other than price to make a good judgment on who their contractor is going to be.
I conduct a small survey with homeowners who hire me from my advertising to further understand contractor marketing. One of the questions I ask the homeowner is why they chose me as their general contractor. I am amazed that the overwhelming answer I receive is that "you weren't the highest and you weren't the lowest".
Though I feel the homeowner made the right decision in hiring me as their general contractor, I interpret this answer to be an err in judgment of an uneducated consumer. The price of a remodeling or home improvement project should never be decided on price alone.
Unless the homeowner provides the scope of the home improvement project with drawings and material specifications, bidding by price alone should not be considered. For example, a commercial drywall project that has the same number of metal studs and sheets of drywall in the scope of work and drawings may go to the lowest bidder, as labor may be the most deciding factor. Sheets of drywall and metal studs are the same materials and vary little in price no matter to what supplier you go.
When quoting a home improvement project such as a deck you want the highest quality materials you can afford attached to your home. A deck can have a wide range of life expectancies depending on the materials you use. Do you know why wood porches that were built close to a hundred years ago in the Norwood area are still standing, but your neighbors deck is rotting after ten years? Deck materials will vary significantly in price and better quality deck materials are usually a slightly higher price. This leads us to the next thing a homeowner can do when selecting a contactor in Norwood, MA.
A homeowner should ask a contractor about the quality of his craftsmanship. This will stump installers, as opposed to carpenters, contractors, and builders. The builders trade has been subdivided pitting the old style carpenter vs. the installer. What’s the difference? A seasoned carpenter, contractor, or builder can seamlessly transition an unforeseen problem while an inexperienced installer may be stumped, have to stop until the problem is figured out by a manager or may attempt to continue where he/she has no experience causing damage to your home.
In Massachusetts a general contractor must be licensed and insured. All projects large and small require a building permit from the town. Massachusetts building code is designed to keep you, your family, and firefighters safe in the event a rescue is needed in your home. Anyone that attempts to conduct your project without a building permit should not be considered.
