United States of America -- Free-Press-Release.com-- Nov 11, 2011 -- This week’s announcement by Oklahoma officials that a record-setting earthquake Saturday damaged property should prompt motorists who are comparing coverage from Oklahoma car insurance companies to make sure the policy they pick covers losses caused by a temblor, according to Online Auto Insurance (OAI).
Emergency officials reported that two people suffered minor injuries as a result of the 5.6 magnitude earthquake—the largest in the state’s history—which was centered about 44 miles east of Oklahoma City and was felt as far away as Wisconsin.

A dozen homes were damaged, according to the state department of emergency management.
But while home and business owners are covered for fire and flood damage resulting from earthquakes and can buy supplemental coverage to protect against the direct impact of temblors, vehicle owners must have comprehensive coverage to be protected from the financial fallout of a shaker.
OAI encourages consumers in Oklahoma and other states make sure their auto policies for vehicles that are relatively new or otherwise worth a lot include comprehensive coverage, the only type of car coverage that protects against weather-related damages including fires, flooding and earthquakes.
Comprehensive coverage is not legally required in any state and will probably cost a little bit more than a bare-bones policy, but it’s the only way to have peace of mind that you won’t have nowhere to turn for reimbursement if your car is damaged by an earthquake.
Comprehensive also covers theft and losses due to other severe weather events, including tornadoes and tropical storms.
That could come in handy for residents of the Sooner State, which is located in the so-called Tornado Alley that stretches from Texas to North Dakota and as far east as Ohio. Oklahoma saw more than 100 twisters last year, according to the National Weather Service.
