New York, NY, January 5, 2012 - Every once in a while people have an oportunity to witness something truly special for the first time. Luckily for the loyal sports fans who are already excited about the up coming 2012 London Olympics, they will get to see some of the brightest stars of Track & Field at the inaugural U.S. Open Track & Field Meet on January 28th at historical Madison Square Garden in New York City. This event kicks off USA Track & Field's 2012 Visa Championship Series. Among those Track & Field stars competing and looking to start the 2012 season off with a win is veteran U.S. sprinter Olympic Gold Medalist Justin Gatlin. The former University of Tennessee star finished the 2011 season in strong fashion with a close Second Place in the 100M Finals at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships which had to be determined by photofinish. Gatlin ultimately made the USA National Team which competed at the 2011 World Outdoor Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Unfortunately, he developed frostbite on his feet while falling asleep in the cyrogenic chamber with wet socks on his feet and the pain prevented him from having his best results throughout the rest of the World Championships. The former Fastest Man in the World says "I'm looking forward to racing indoor and making the indoor World Team. I'm working to win Gold for the USA". Gatlin has been training intensely in Orlando and is excited about starting the track and field season off in such a world renowned entertainment venue like Madison Square Garden. "Icons like Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan have dazzled fans there and stars like Jay-Z & Justin Beiber have soldout shows there too. So if that's not enough to get you hyped to perform at your best, then I don't know what else is", says Gatlin about running at the U.S. Upen in MSG. He will be competing in the 50Meter Dash against another former Fastest Man in the World, Jamaican sprinter Osafa Powell.
