WHERE'S THE FIRE? STOP THIS FIRE CONTRACT AND GET A BETTER DEAL FOR TAXPAYERS!

The City Personnel Board ignored numerous serious questions about the proposed fire contract and approved it. Now the contract goes to the City Council. Why is there a rush to get the contract approved before the new CIR law takes effect in October? Why is there a provision in the contract saying the new CIR law will not apply to this contract? Why aren't all pension contributions by taxpayers included when evaluating the total compensation of firefighters? Why is there an open-ended provision saying the contract can be changed by memos and orders issued by the fire chief or the mayor? The push is on to get one more sweetheart deal done for the firefighters union. OmahaAlliance.com will offer a three-part presentation: 1) a comparison to fire contracts in other cities that shows how out-of-whack ours is, 2) a comparison to the private sector that shows how out-of-whack the compensation is compared to what is available in the private sector, and 3) our view of what would make the contract better. Then we'll open it up to Q&A from the media and the audience.
