http://www.oneheninc.org BOSTON (December 7, 2010) – Boston-based social entrepreneurship nonprofit One Hen, Inc. is pleased to announce two new directors to its board. David Palumbo, Chief Information Officer of National Heritage Academies (NHA) joins the board as Vice Chairman, and Paula Campbell Saint Germain, Vice President at Morgan Stanley, joins to guide One Hen’s New York outreach. The board also voted standing Vice Chairman Dan Barnicle, Vice President at SapientNitro and Co-founder of www.onehen.org, to the role of Chairman, picking up the reins from founding board chair Monique Muri, CEO of RAM Scientific, who remains a director at large.
Dr. David Palumbo, a teacher, research scholar, academic administrator and curriculum director, digital entrepreneur, consultant, salesman, and corporate executive, has carved a unique global position in the business of learning and has spent his career focusing on reducing the achievement gap. As Vice Chairman of One Hen and Chief Information Officer of NHA, David will lead a collaborative effort to pilot One Hen Academy as part of NHA’s middle school curriculum to promote important life skills and college readiness.
"We are excited to have David join the board. His vast experience in building effective, next-generation learning systems and his vision for equitable education for all fits perfectly with One Hen's mission to empower all kids to become social entrepreneurs who make a difference for themselves and others," said Dan Barnicle, Chairman, One Hen, Inc.
Paula Campbell Saint Germain has worked in strategy consulting at Bain & Company and today serves as the Head of Global Content for Morgan Stanley's global electronic trading business. With a passion for economic development, she supports One Hen’s vision to inspire students to develop financial responsibility, personal initiative, global awareness and giving back.
”Paula is a tremendous addition to the board,” said One Hen executive director, Amma Sefa-Dedeh. “Her deep and extensive experience in both corporate strategy and financial services combined with her family’s roots in Jamaica and Haiti bring skills and understanding of the developing country entrepreneurs we support and use as role models for our social entrepreneurship curriculum for elementary and middle school students.”
One Hen, Inc., which began as an educator movement out of Wellesley, MA, became a federally recognized nonprofit in January 2009, and was recently ranked among the top 10% of innovative start ups for social change by Echoing Green, out of 1,300 global nominees. Since launch, One Hen’s summer enrichment programs have expanded from a 100-student pilot in 2009 to over 2,200 students in six cities across the country. Over the school year, One Hen programs have reached 7,300 students and 500 teachers in classroom programs and connected online with educators in 142 countries and across all U.S. states and Canadian provinces through interactive educational resources available on www.onehen.org and www.thegoodgarden.org.
”One Hen grew out of an educator movement to teach social entrepreneurship to younger students across core disciplines of math, social studies, language arts and science,” said One Hen, Inc. co-founder Katie Smith Milway. “And educators are at the forefront of classroom experiments, which One Hen, Inc. staff distill into curriculum and share digitally with other educators around the world. David’s depth in both web tools and curriculum, and Paula’s expertise in strategy bring invaluable insights to help One Hen enhance its efforts and outreach.
Ongoing One Hen, Inc. directors of the board include Eric Hogue, VP, Strategic Services, Millward Brown, who serves as Treasurer of One Hen, Inc; Elizabeth Perdue, Partner in the law firm of Morgan Lewis & Bockius and chair of Opportunity International’s Women’s Opportunity Network, who serves as One Hen’s Secretary; Monique Muri, CEO, RAM Scientific and One Hen, Inc. co-founder; and Katie Smith Milway, partner at the Bridgespan Group and author of One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference and The Good Garden: How One Family Went from Hunger to Having Enough.
