One Small Change Project Encourages Hundreds to be Green
A Colorado family starts a grassroots movement to encourage hundreds of people to make small changes in their lives to be more environmentally friendly.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 8, 2010 --
Andy and Suzy Hawbaker of Loveland, Colorado issued a challenge to encourage people to make one small change each month from January 1, 2010 through Earth Day April 22, 2010. The idea behind the project is that many people think that being green means you have to buy a brand new hybrid car or some other major and expensive purchase. The Hawbaker's realized that if they could encourage people to focus on the small things in their life, they could get many people to make small changes that together could add up to a much larger impact.
The challenge was issued on the Hip Mountain Mama Blog. Over 300 people signed up to take part in the challenge. The participants are choosing something simple like turning down the thermostat, changing to CFL bulbs, reducing use of water, or eliminating their purchases of plastic packaging. Each of the 300+ participants are writing about their changes and their success stories on their own blogs which is spreading the message of how easy making eco-friendly changes can be to hundreds more people.
The challenge is sponsored by Hip Mountain Mama and 13 other sponsors who have donated prices that will be given to randomly selected participants when the challenge concludes on Earth Day. You can see some of the changes that people have made and read about their success stories at the One Small Change Blog (http://1smallchangeblog.blogspot.com/).
