ONLINE GEEZEDIT FOR TYPING IN AMHARIC

Today, ABSHA/ECS of Colorado announced the release of GeezEdit Typing Online, a free Ethiopic application to type the Amharic alphabet available at http://freetying.geezedit.com

GeezEdit Typing Online is an incredibly simple application to use due to innovative two key stroke technology. Patent pending technology allows you to use a maximum of two keystrokes to type any letter in the Ethiopic alphabet. Other Ethiopic applications make you use up to six keystrokes to type some Ethiopic characters. GeezEdit Typing Online allows you to save time and type any Ethiopic character, numeral, symbol or tonal mark with two keystrokes at most. This free application allows you to edit, save, and print anything in Amharic, the national language of Ethiopia.

ABSHA is a company that was established in 1982 by Dr. Aberra Molla and his wife, Senait Ketema. ABSHA/ECS of Colorado pioneered the computerization of Ethiopic. ModEth, an Ethiopic word processor for DOS, was released in 1987. Prior to Ethiopic computerization by Dr. Aberra the alphabet was typeset only in the printing presses or written manually. The focus of the current rendering technology known as ABSHA system is the typing of each of the more than 563 Ethiopic glyphs with one or two keystrokes, somewhat similar to typing in English on computers. Enjoy the simplicity of the new technology while sparing your time and money.

Ethiopic is an ancient phonetic alphabet that has been in use in Ethiopia for millennia and is currently utilized by numerous languages such as Agew, Amharic, Bench, Bilen, Geez, Guragie, Meen, Oromiffa, Tigre and Tigrigna. The alphabet has continued to grow because of the inclusion of new characters to accommodate more languages.
