http://www.printsites.com Are online stores making the printed catalog obsolete? For a time, conventional wisdom led some to believe that customers would transfer their affections to the online venue, and forget their desire to flip through a printed catalog. These retailers were in for a big shock. They found that online sales decreased in conjunction with fewer printed catalogs arriving in homes. Conversely, they found that printed catalogs actually helped boost online sales figures. Seems that customers want both a catalog in their mail, and one on the Internet. Successful online retailers such as Zappos have publicly made it known that their non-catalog-receiving customers who had a dip in their spending habits quickly revived their spending, and responded well to subsequent catalog mailings. The printed catalog encouraged sales, even online. Even The Sharper Image has revived their printed catalog, after an attempt to shift exclusively to an online business model. Confirmed by the US Postal Service, printed catalogs motivate buyers to spend money and boost online spending.
And if it's not too much trouble, can they have color catalogs? A major university recently found colorful catalogs to be helpful. Their black and white newsprint catalog produced little to no enrollment response. But, when the same catalog was reprinted in glossy full color, enrollment went way up. So much so, that they multiplied their printing run for the following semester.
This is all encouraging news for the print shop owner who thought Internet sales were taking over. These printers are further encouraged by the huge strides being taken by PrintSites web to print ecommerce platform; the 2012 PrintSites+PLUS platform will allow native file uploads, multi-page design and large format printing.
