Only Two Weeks Left For Residents To Enter 2010 Hailsham In Bloom Competitions

The Town Council’s Hailsham in Bloom Committee is still searching for the town’s most attractive gardens for the 2010 entry into the South & South East in Bloom competition.




FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 19, 2010 -- Residents who wish to enter the Best Kept Front Garden or Best Wildlife Garden have until Friday 4th June 2010 to submit their applications.

Cash prizes will be up for grabs for competition winners, details of which will be announced in the near future.

The criteria for Best Kept Front Garden are:

• A pleasing first impression and overall impact
• Variety of plant range, with few or no weeds
• Good planning in layout and selection of plants
• Good floral colour combinations

• Paving and garden structures that complement, not dominate
• Evidence of recycling (e.g. use of grey water)
• A tidy appearance all round

Best Wildlife Garden competition entrants will be assessed on the following criteria:

• Good planning and design that attracts, enhances and protects wildlife (insects, birds and small mammals)
• Good use of wildlife-friendly habitats, e.g. ponds, hedges, flower borders, small wildlife meadows, compost heaps
• Innovative design that reduces environmental impact
• Use of natural and sustainable (organic) materials

Entry forms are available at the Town Council Offices (Inglenook, Market Street) or available to download online at www.hailshaminbloom.org. Entry for both competition categories is free of charge.

Winners of each category will be notified shortly after the closing date and some of the individual winners will be selected to help form part of the town’s official judging route(s) after this notification. An official Awards Presentation will be held in early September of next year.

Cllr Bentley-Astor, chairman of the Hailsham In Bloom Committee urges as many people act quickly and take part in this year’s competitions: “Over the past three years, Hailsham In Bloom has brought about the best in our town’s green-fingered residents, themselves creating splashes of colour and some innovative landscaping in their gardens.”

He added, “I look forward to seeing this year’s competition entries and would remind people that they only have two weeks to submit their application forms!”
