Open Air Film Festival 2011 in Barcelona

With vacations in their mind everyone starts planning how and where to spend their beautiful summer evenings. One of the places which offers the best there is in summer is Barcelona, the Catalan capital. Barcelona has everything to offer, beaches, bars, sports, theatres, festivals you just name it. Barcelona has always been famous for its theatres. One of them is the Sala Montjuic, the open air theatre located in the Montjuic Mountains in Barcelona.

Every summer, in July a series of idyllic evenings of a film fresco starts and it stretches into August. The Montjuic Castle is transformed into a huge outdoor cinema and concert venue as thousands head up there to a peaceful and relaxing time. The Sala Montjuic idea was adapted from the Open Air Film Festival in Paris. The Sala Montjuic project was started nine years ago by Mireia, Nathalie and William, and has been running ever since every year.

This year the 9th Edition of Sala Montjuic is set to take place. The festival will start from the 4th of July and go to the 5th of August. Shows will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The concerts start at 21:00 hrs, and are followed by a short film at 22:00hrs and the movie at 22:15 hrs. Every year the festival has to offer a selection from the best author movies of all time and this year is going to be no different. All the movies are screened in original language and have Spanish subtitles. The luxury of choosing the movies lies in the hands of the three founders. The tickets cost around 5 Euros. Usually people sit on the grass by if you want a chair an additional 3 Euros is required.
The picture of a Sala Montjuic night is something like: People of all ages sitting in one place, like a family on a couch at home waiting for the movie to begin. The star filled Barcelona sky providing a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere for picnic also. The feeling of watching a good movie surrounded by so many people enjoying a silence is something that you don’t often find in a conventional room or a normal cinema.
