Open Hands Jazz Quartet Plays Gardens of the World

The highly acclaimed Open Hands jazz quartet is playing The Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks, CA August 21. The free concert is part of a series running each Sunday in August.

Thousand Oaks, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 8, 2011 -- The highly acclaimed Open Hands jazz quartet is coming to The Gardens of the World August 21 for a free concert, featuring the instrumental group’s refined musical sounds. Open Hands will play at the Gardens from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at 2001 Thousand Oaks Boulevard located across from the Thousand Oaks Civic Center.

Open Hands is comprised of four of the world’s most respected and diverse musicians. They combine South American rhythms with American jazz and rhythm and blues to create a uniquely smooth and sophisticated blend of music. On bass guitar is Abraham Laboriel. Justo Almario plays a variety of woodwinds. Greg Mathieson is on key boards and Bill Maxwell handles the drums.

The group members have performed with such music giants as Stevie Wonder, Barbara Streisand, Al Jarreau, Quincy Jones, Dave Grusin, T Bone Burnett, Herb Alpert, Donna Summer, and Michael Jackson. These performers also have big band pedigrees, working with orchestras under the direction of such icons as Count Basie, Harry James, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, and many more.

The final Gardens of the World concert of the summer will feature the rousing, fun talents of The Late Nite Big Band led by Joel Gray August 28. Lawn seating is available in front of the Gardens of the World American Bandstand. Blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets are welcomed; however, smoking, glass containers and pets are not allowed.

Free parking is available along the street. Parking for a fee is available across the street at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Center.

About the Gardens of the World: The Gardens of the World is a 4.5-acre cultural garden open to the public and located across the street from the Thousand Oaks Civic Center on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. The authentically-landscaped Gardens commemorate various cultures of the world, including Italian, French, Japanese, and English. There is also a California Mission Courtyard, an American Bandstand for free summer jazz concerts, and the Resource Center, where local artists can exhibit their works. The Gardens of the World is owned and operated by the Hogan Family Foundation. Admission is free. Reservations are required for Docent tours and any group visit.
