Operation BBQ Relief, Inc. to Hold Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament

Operation BBQ Relief, Inc. , a non-profit relief organization, will be holding a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament as a fundraiser and to promote the organization. The tournament will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at The Pavilion East (4621 Shrank Drive, Independence, MO). Pre-registration can be done online at the Operation BBQ Relief Web site under the “What’s New” section. Pre-registering online gives players $500 extra in chips and is $10 less than registering at the door. Join Operation BBQ Relief for an evening of poker, food, refreshments and prizes. Doors open at 5:30 PM for registration. Play begins at 7:00 PM. Proceeds benefit the organization’s efforts to feed victims of natural disasters nationwide.

Operation BBQ Relief, Inc. was founded in May, 2011 by Jeff Stith, Stan Hays and Will Cleaver after they planned and implemented a large relief effort in Joplin, Missouri. Professional competition barbecue teams from eight states responded to Joplin in the wake of the massive EF5 tornado that destroyed a large part of that community and killed over 140 people. The group served over 120,000 meals in eleven days to displaced families and rescue and first response personnel. The organization has since also responded to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where they served over 5,000 meals to displaced families during the catastrophic flooding of the Susquehanna River after Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. They are preparing to repeat these operations anywhere in the United States where natural disasters threaten the lives and safety of our citizens.
